How do I register for the 2010 Michigan HOSA State Leadership Conference? 1. Go to the Michigan HOSA website
2. Click on the red tab labeled “Advisor Login”
3. Enter your Charter Number and Password
4. Click “Conference Registration” then re-enter Charter Number and Password
5. Select 2010 State Leadership Conference
6. Select the students attending and their appropriate event
When is registration due?
Registration for both HOSA events and hotel registration is March 15, 2010.
When is payment due?
March 29, 2010
What is the registration fee?
$75/Student/Advisor/Chaperon/Guest
Do guests, chaperones, and family members need to pay the registration fee?
The $75 registration fee is required if the guest/family member desires a name badge, program, advisor gift, and other material provided at registration.
The $75 registration fee is not required if the guest/family member does not desire the items listed above.
Can my chaperone get into the general and awards sessions without a name badge?
Yes.
Is our bus driver required to stay at the Grand Traverse Resort?
No. We encourage bus drivers to find alternative lodging allowing more room in the hotel for conference participants.
What is the cancelation policy?
Refunds will not be awarded after March 15, 2010. Substitutions are permitted. Remember for team events that according to National HOSA Guidelines that you may substitute up to 50% of your original team.
Are meals provided as part of the $75 registration fee?
The registration fee does not cover the expense of meals. Please see the Meal Options link below the State Leadership Conference FAQs link.
I am an advisor and I am trying to register myself for the State Leadership Conference but my name does not appear on my Chapter Affiliation Roster. Why not?
If this is the case, chances are you never affiliated. Unfortunately, this confuses many people. Designating yourself as the advisor on the “Advisor Information Page” does not automatically affiliate you. You must add yourself as a “Professional Member” under the “Add Member” page. After doing this you will be able to register for the conference. National HOSA will send you an invoice for the $20 affiliation fee.
What should I do if a student does not qualify but would like to attend the State Leadership Conference?
Students may participate in the Recognition Events found on page 14 of the Michigan HOSA Heartbeat. Students may also participate in the Pin Design and Theme Contests. Guidelines for these events can be found on page 21 and 22 of the Michigan HOSA Heartbeat. Many educational symposiums and leadership academies are offered for students as well.
How do I obtain an invoice upon registering my school?
Invoices will be mailed on March 16, 2010. Invoices can be emailed prior to March 16 upon request. You may also print an invoice from the registration page when you are finished registering. On the top right corner of the registration page is “Invoice/Registration Report”. Click on this button and you will have an invoice you can print.
Can I register some of my students now and others (including chaperones) later?
Yes. Registration is open for additions, changes and deletions until March 15.
Can I print an invoice from the computer when I register?
Yes. You may print an invoice off after completing your online registration.
What should my students and I wear to the general sessions?
Females:
One of the Following:
Business suit
HOSA Blazer coordinated with dress blouse with skirt or dress slacks
(skirts & dresses must be at least finger tip length)
Skirt or dress slacks, blouse and/or sweater
Shirts must have sleeves and no bare midriffs
Skirts and shorts must be at least finger tip length
Dress Shoes and Stockings: Open-toed shoes without stockings and flip-flop sandals will not be permitted.
Males:
One of the Following:
Business suit or coordinated slacks and blazer with collared dress shirt and necktie
HOSA blazer coordinated with slacks, collared shirt and necktie
Dress slacks, collared dress shirt, necktie with optional sweater
Males MUST wear a necktie.
Dress Shoes and Socks: No athletic shoes or sandals will be permitted.
Will tests be used as qualifiers?
Events containing high numbers such as Nursing Assisting, Creative Problem Solving, Medical Reading, and more (yet to be determined until March 15) will use the written portion of the event to qualify competitors for the skills portion of their event.
Will I need to help manage an event?
Yes. The State Leadership Conference runs smoothly with the help of the teachers/advisors. Each teacher is asked to assist in the management of one competitive event. The HOSA state office will communicate which event each teacher will manage.
My chaperone is a health professional…can s/he be a judge?
Yes, please. Judges play a crucial role in the State Leadership Conference. If you have a chaperone willing to judge, please let the state office know as soon as possible.
Can my chaperones help at the events?
Sure. Please let the state office know so that we can coordinate assistance accordingly.
Can family members watch the events?
Unfortunately, no. Competitions are closed for the sake of the students.
Which non-skill events will have more than one round?
To avoid the need for Standard Deviation, the top ten students/teams in Career Health Display and Job Seeking Skills will compete in a second round.
What is a Voting Delegate?
HOSA is a student led organization. A chosen group of students are selected to represent the entire student body and vote on important issues at the State Leadership Conference. These students are called Voting Delegates.
How many Voting Delegates is my chapter awarded?
Voting delegates at the State Leadership Conference are apportioned based on the current year’s membership. One Voting Delegate is awarded per every 25 members:

What is Courtesy Corps?
Many students are utilized as patients, greeters, time keepers, runners, etc. Courtesy Corps is the label assigned to the group of students that volunteer their time and assist with conference objectives. We encourage Courtesy Corps participation because they play a crucial role in the success of the conference. HOSA Medallions are provided to students that contribute the most time. The first Courtesy Corps meeting is scheduled for 1:15 PM on the Thursday, the first day of the State Leadership Conference.
