Our precious last days of freedom….

August 26th, 2008

flowersHey y’all…

Well, we are nearing the end of our summer… in a matter of days we will all be heading back to our respective schools for another year of learning…. and HOSA!

When  I first realized how close the pending school year was, my reaction was… less than excited… but then I remembered that with the new school year comes the new HOSA year and that definately ended my back-to-school blues. I can’t wait to see everyone and hear how they are getting involved in HOSA.

But that said, enjoy the last few days of summer! Have fun with your friends and family this Labor Day, but be sure to stay safe!

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Jess

Hey everyone!

The name’s Jessica and I am your Michigan HOSA President-elect.

I think I will start off by saying a little about moi.

I am a senior in high school and I currently live in Bay City. I got involved in HOSA in the fall of ‘07 when I was in the Dental Occupations class at my career center, and I have been hooked ever since. I’ve actually been interested in healthcare since I was a wee little one, so I was pretty excited to get involved.  Outside of healthcare, my interests include photography, hanging with friends and anything involving food.

So tonight my boyfriend and I went to this little Indian restaurant in Saginaw.  This was my first time trying anything from this particular type of cuisine, so I was pretty stoked. Once I looked over the menu though, I felt a little overwhelmed, not to mention silly, especially when I tried to pronounce the names of the various dishes. Of course I haven’t heard of any of them so I ended up asking the waiter to make a recommendation. He did, and I have to say, it was pretty much amazing.  I had a curry with chicken and potatoes in it and this awesome bread stuff that was like a non-sugary elephant ear. I can honestly say Indian food is my new favorite. After dinner we went over to a little Indian market that was a few feet down from the restaurant. I bought a bottle of this Indian soda called Limca. The soda vaguely tasted like what I would expect Clorox to. But the bottle was pretty sweet, and at a dollar, it was worth a try.

I love trying new things, even though I might not really be sure about it at first. Trying this food tonight gave me the oppurtunity to move outside the bubble that we all can get stuck in. So if you find yourself looking for something out of the ordinary, just go for it. (And seriously consider the Indian food, it was fantastic!!)
