SLC FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Do middle school members participate at regional conferences? No. As of 2025-2026 middle school members will only participate at the middle school only state conference and the International Leadership Conference.

  • What is this conference for? Any registered Michigan HOSA middle school member who wishes to participate in the 2026 Michigan HOSA Middle School SLC , will compete at this conference to determine who will represent Michigan HOSA at the International Leadership Conference in June. This is equivalent to the Michigan HOSA State Leadership Conference, but that conference in now only for secondary & post-secondary members. This state conference is only for middle school competitors.

  • Who is eligible to compete at the middle school state conference? Any Michigan HOSA middle school member.

  • How does a competitor register for this conference? Through their school/ HOSA advisor.

  • My event partner(s) cannot attend the conference. Can I still compete? You MUST compete with the number of competitors listed in the guidelines. For example, if your event is allowed 2-6 members, you can still compete as long as you have at least 2 competitors. IF your event requires 4 people, you must have 4 people competing. You cannot compete with any more or less people than styated in the the guidelines.

  • Are parents/family members allowed at the conference? We recommend parents only attend the awards ceremony at the end of the conference, unless parents sign up to volunteer. There is nothing for parents to do during the conference. Parents/family are not allowed to watch students compete.

  • Does my advisor need to attend the conference? Yes, your advisor needs to attend. Students are NOT allowed to attend on their own. Schools MUST provide event personnel to help with the conference for every 20 students registered. For example, if you have 21 people registered, two adults (one being the advisor) must attend to help by being an event manager, judge, or some other event help needed.

  • Who needs to register for the conference and what is the cost? The registration for all competitors, advisors, family and guests is $45/person. Included in the registration fee is a name badge, conference program, conference T-shirt, and a lunch. If a guest/family member/chaperone plan to attend but do NOT want any of those things, then they do NOT need to register for the conference.

  • Do I need a Photo ID to compete in my event? Yes, you need to show proof of identity to event managers when checking into your event. A digital photo of an ID is acceptable (i.e., an online picture you show the event manager via your phone).
