Leadership Initiatives Internship Opportunity for Michigan HOSA Students

Dear Michigan HOSA Students, 

 

You are invited to a special summer internship presentation with our partners from Leadership Initiatives, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that places Michigan HOSA students with top internships in the fields of law, business, medicine, and national security in Washington, D.C. 

 

On Wednesday, February 4th, at 7:00 PM EST, Leadership Initiatives will be hosting a 25-minute virtual presentation on how you can participate in this program. This presentation is only available to Michigan HOSA students and will discuss scholarships, college application benefits, and enrollment opportunities.

Additionally, their sponsors at the Microsoft Youthspark Foundation, Starbucks Foundation, and Amazon will be granting Michigan HOSA students $1000 assistance scholarships to attend specialized internship programs in the summer of 2026. 

 

Please note that you must complete the registration form above to be eligible for the exclusive scholarships available to Michigan HOSA students.

Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship

July 5th - July 11th, 2026, July 12th - July 18th, 2026, July 19th - July 25th, 2026, or July 26th - August 1st, 2026

Participants learn about the four major diseases facing the developing world from doctors and medical professionals from Georgetown University. This knowledge will help interns diagnose a patient in real-time in the developing world. Medical interns also develop public health campaigns to raise awareness and provide prevention methods to communities in need. These public health campaigns will be used throughout Bauchi, Nigeria, to improve the understanding of preventable diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. Additionally, interns have the rare opportunity to perform an upper endoscopy, an abdominal ultrasound, and learn how to draw blood using state-of-the-art simulation units. Finally, interns partner with a cadre of experts in surgery, medical research, emergency room medicine, and physical therapy to learn about future medical careers. Advanced Medical Neuroscience Internship

June 28th - July 4th, 2026, July 5th - July 11th, 2026,  or July 12th - July 18th, 2026

Participants intern with world-renowned neuroscientist and chief of Georgetown University's neuroethics program, Dr. James Giordano. Interns participate in cutting-edge neuroscience experiments that explore the biological foundations of the brain, progressing from the cellular foundations of the neuron to an understanding of the sensory systems, and culminating with higher-order cognitive functions such as memory, emotion, and morality. As their final project, interns design and propose an experiment related to cognitive neuroscience and neuroethics in order to focus and apply their understanding. Participants present these proposed experiments to a panel of leading neuroscientists, with the winning team writing a paper to be published on their theories. Advanced Law & Justice Reform Internship

July 12th - July 18th, 2026

Interns partner with the Law Office of Rebecca Bloch on a Youth Rehabilitation Amendment Case case with citizens who are applying for their sentence to be set aside based on rehabilitation. Interns work directly with a client and their legal team to draft legal memoranda, develop case arguments, and present case recommendations to strengthen the case. Throughout the internship, participants draft motions under DC Law, connect with distinguished law professors and experienced attorneys, analyze systemic legal system deficiencies, and apply their insights to create tangible change. Interns will directly collaborate with national organizations like the Second Look Project, The DC Justice Lab, and the Justice Project to advocate for change in the criminal legal system. Over the past three years, four clients have been released under IRAA, and three sentences have been set aside due to the work that interns have done on the motions. 2026 cases will be announced in the spring. Criminal Law & Trial Internship

July 26th - August 1st, 2026

Participants intern for the DC-based law firm Harden Law PLLC to create key case arguments and have their work incorporated into trials and hearings in the fall of 2026. Interns work directly with their client who has been charged in Washington DC, and are going to trial in the fall of 2026. Interns sift through case files and evidence to develop witness preparation questions and develop case theories to help prepare their client for trial. Interns also work to create an advocacy campaign to further criminal justice that interns will get to advocate for while meeting with congressional leaders on Capitol Hill. Law interns are given the unique opportunity to work with the Public Defenders Service, D.C. Police Officers, prosecutors, and law professors from Georgetown University Law School. Past cases have included the armed robbery of a US Postal Truck, felony gun cases, and workplace retaliation cases. Cases for 2026 will be announced in the spring. International Leadership & Business Internship

June 28th - July 4th, 2026, July 5th - July 11th, 2026, July 12th - July 18th, 2026, July 19th - July 25th, 2026, or July 26th - August 1st, 2026

Participants choose an entrepreneur from the developing world to partner with and develop plans to make their start-up business a reality. Interns learn how to skillfully build a business while simultaneously calculating risk – the essentials of constructing a successful enterprise. Participants work closely with Georgetown University professors and business professionals to write business plans, develop research skills, as well as learn teamwork, proper oral presentation techniques, and critical communication skills. These experts lead a series of skills-development workshops to help students create a business plan. At the end of the week, interns allocate seed money to implement their business plans in the fall of 2026. Interns will also attend exclusive tours of the Nigerian, Swedish, Chinese, French and Iraqi embassies; each tour will have special questions and answer sessions from the leading embassy officials. Cybersecurity & Defense Internship

July 12th - July 18th, 2026 or July 19th - July 25th, 2026

Participants in this accelerated cybersecurity training program work closely with experts in the field of cybersecurity, learn about the latest innovations in cyber-attack prevention, including NMAP and Metasploit, and implement this software to protect a start-up business. Interns will meet one-on-one with representatives from various national security organizations to learn about the ways cybersecurity is implemented in all aspects of the United States Government. Representatives include the CIA, FBI, NSA, the Department of Homeland Security, the State Department, and the Department of Defense. As a final project, interns will propose cyber-security protocols for a nonprofit organization that is at risk of cyber-attacks that will be presented to a panel of experts to be implemented over the course of the following year. National Security & Diplomacy Internship

July 5th - July 11th, 2026

Participants in this accelerated security training program work directly with national security experts, learn about the latest intelligence and diplomacy strategies, and implement these strategies to save lives. Interns meet one-on-one with representatives from all branches of the military, federal agencies, military academies, and private companies to learn about the education and career opportunities available to them in the fields of security and intelligence. Representatives in 2024 included the National Security Agency, CIA, FBI, Secret Service, West Point, the U.S. Department of State, Navy Seals, and the U.S. Air Force Academy. As a final project, interns work in teams to implement what they have learned throughout the program to design and propose a security plan for the Borno State University or RAMAT Polytechnic Institute Security Department. Their solutions will protect major areas and institutions within Borno State, Nigeria, from terrorist groups like Boko Haram. Click here to watch our program video.

 

AI & Medical Innovation Internship

July 26th - August 1st, 2026

Interns explore how artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare by studying machine learning, predictive modeling, and AI ethics while applying their knowledge to real-world medical challenges. Participants conduct hands-on projects such as training Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for medical image analysis and developing AI-based tools to improve patient care, while also networking with experts like Dr. James Giordano and Dr. Sarah Bargal. As a final project, interns work with a healthcare leader to design and present an AI-driven proposal to enhance medical systems or clinical operations, with selected solutions shared with partner organizations for potential implementation.

 

AI & Business Strategy Internship

July 26th - August 1st, 2026

Interns investigate the growing role of artificial intelligence in business by learning machine learning fundamentals, AI integration, and digital strategy while applying their knowledge to support small businesses in Washington, DC. Participants explore applications of AI in marketing, finance, e-commerce, and cybersecurity, and meet directly with leaders from Amazon, Deloitte, KPMG, and E&Y to learn about cutting-edge industry practices. As a final project, interns work as consultants for a local business, presenting tailored AI adoption strategies to business leaders and a panel of experts, with selected recommendations shared with partner organizations for implementation.

 

Jumpstart Middle School Program

June 28th - July 4th, 2026
The Jumpstart Middle School Program is a week-long immersive experience that allows driven middle schoolers to discover their passions and explore their future career. Students participate in interactive, fast-paced, hands-on activities designed around business, law, health, and national security while getting a head start preparing for college life on Georgetown University's campus. While working with experts including university professors, former FBI agents, Fortune 500 executives, and medical doctors, students will learn about future academic and career possibilities as they go on exciting trips and tours and engage with professionals from several different disciplines. Students will cultivate the practical skills, confidence, knowledge, and leadership capacity to pursue their goals and be a role model for their school and community. Click
